How Symmetric Strength collects, uses, shares and protects your information. Last updated October 21, 2026.
Introduction
Symmetric Strength ("we", "us" or "our") runs the strength calculator, strength standards, workout tracking and related tools at symmetricstrength.com and in the Symmetric Strength apps for iPhone and Android. This policy covers the website and the apps. It explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have. Hattan Media LLC, 240 E Palisade Ave, Englewood, NJ 07631, United States, runs Symmetric Strength and is responsible for your information.
Information we collect
We collect the information you give us and a small amount of technical information: Account details: email address, username and a securely hashed password, or the sign-in provider you choose (Google, Apple, X or Facebook). Sign-in provider details: when you continue with Google, X or Facebook, that provider sends us your name, email address, profile photo and the ID of your account there. X also sends your username. When you continue with Apple, Apple sends us your email address and the ID of your Apple account, and your name the first time you sign in. Apple sends no photo. If you choose Hide My Email, Apple gives us a private relay address instead of your real one, and our emails reach you through Apple's relay. We use these details to sign you in, to create your account or match it to the account with the same email address, and to show your photo. We never post to your Google, Apple, X or Facebook account and never read your contacts, friends, followers or posts. Continue with Apple is on the website and in the iPhone app. The apps also offer Google, Facebook and X through our website's sign-in page. Profile details you enter: sex, age or date of birth, bodyweight, height and unit preferences. Training data: lifts, sets, reps, workouts, templates, programs and notes you save or import. Imported files: when you import a CSV from another app, the file is read in your browser or on your phone, and only the workouts you confirm are saved. Choices and settings: privacy settings, profile visibility, email preferences and your consent choices, with the time and policy version they were recorded. App and device details: when you sign in to one of our apps, we save your device's name, whether it is an iPhone or Android phone, and the app version. You can see each device and sign it out in the app under Settings, then Devices. When you send feedback from an app, we also save your device model, operating system, language, screen size and app version, and any screenshot you attach. Technical information: your IP address for rate limiting and abuse prevention, the IP address and browser type saved with activity records such as sign-ins and sign-up clicks, and error logs. Usage information: on the website, the pages you visit and the features you use, recorded by our own product events and by Google Analytics. In the apps, our own product events record when you open the app, sign up, finish a workout, save a score, open a notification or the share sheet, hit a sync problem or delete your account, with your phone type and the app version. The apps stop sending these if you turn analytics off. We also record when you see, open, accept or dismiss a Smart Coach step. When you mark a Smart Coach step Helpful or Not for me, we save your answer with that step. Invites: if you sign up through a friend's invite link, we save who invited you, when you joined and when you reached the badge goal, and we add you to each other's friends. That friend sees that you joined, how many lifts each of you wins on your first saved check with lifts in common, and that you reached the goal. While both profiles are public, you see each other's logged lifts, weights included, in your friends lists. Turn on Hide my bodyweight from others in Settings to keep your bodyweight off them. Your invite link: anyone who opens it sees your Strength Score, level, symmetry and the level and score of each lift from your latest check. Never your weights, bodyweight or age. This starts after you copy or share your link from the Smart Coach invite card. Where you heard about us: after you sign up, we ask one optional question about how you found Symmetric Strength. We save your answer, any words you type for Other and when you answered, or only that you skipped. We use the answers to count where members come from. Your answer never shows on your profile. You can see or clear it in Settings, and deleting your account deletes it.
How we use your information
Calculate your strength scores, levels, symmetry and estimated one-rep maxes. Save your history and show your progress over time. Generate Smart Coach suggestions and weekly reviews from your saved results. Rules pick each step, and automated tools may reword it from the same numbers. About 1 in 10 members always see the rule wording, so we can check whether the reworded text helps. Show your public profile and leaderboard entries only if you choose to make them public. Count your lifts, without your name or profile, in the community statistics everyone sees, such as percentiles and strength standards. We also publish anonymous findings from these statistics on the Strength Census page, such as lift ratios and medians for groups of at least 200 members, never with names. You can turn this off in Settings, which leaves your lifts out of both. Send account emails, such as password resets and a short welcome series. Keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems. We do not sell your personal information.
Cookies and similar storage
Necessary cookies keep you signed in and remember your privacy choices. Before you sign in, a first-party cookie can remember your choices on this device for 180 days, and a guest calculation can be kept in your browser for 30 days. Analytics is part of how Symmetric Strength runs. Our own product events and Google Analytics count the pages you visit and the features you use, such as finishing a calculation, saving a result, completing a workout or sharing. If analytics is on when you arrive through a shared link or another link we tag with its source, your browser keeps which kind of link it was in session storage until you close the tab, so we can count where sign-ups come from. If analytics is on when you open a friend's invite link, a first-party cookie remembers that invite for 30 days so your friend gets credit when you sign up. Google Analytics sets its own cookies and records those pages and features, your device and browser type, and your approximate location. It does not store IP addresses, and we also ask it to anonymize them. We turn off Google signals and ad personalization and do not connect Google Analytics to your account. Before a page address goes to Google, we remove the lifts and other details that a shared result link carries. Personalization is on unless you turn it off, and turning it off does not limit the product. If you are in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can also turn analytics off, and Google Analytics then stops loading for you. Change your choices at any time on this page, or in Settings when you are signed in. We do not use advertising or remarketing, and we do not use analytics data for ads. If you are not signed in, a page may show Google's sign-in prompt. To show it, your browser loads a script from Google, so Google can tell you opened our site. We get nothing from Google unless you choose an account in the prompt. Google then sends us your name, email address, profile photo and Google account ID, and we use them to sign you in or create your account, the same as the Continue with Google button. If you close the prompt, Google waits a while before showing it again. To run the prompt, we keep a small cookie and a note in your browser tab, and Google may set its own cookie on our site to remember when you closed it.
Crash reports and app performance
When one of our apps crashes or hits an error, it sends a report to Sentry, a service of Functional Software, Inc. in the United States, so we can find and fix the problem. A report holds the error and where it happened in the app, your device model and operating system, the app version, and your numeric account ID if you are signed in. The app also tells Sentry when you open and close it, so we can count how often it crashes. Before a report leaves your phone, the app removes email addresses, usernames and names, passwords and sign-in tokens, workout notes and sets, push tokens, and the query part of web addresses. The app does not send your IP address with these reports, and Sentry does not store IP addresses. Sentry keeps the reports for up to 90 days. The apps also report to Expo, a service of 650 Industries, Inc., how long the app takes to start and to load each screen. We use these timings to find slow screens. The apps do not use Google Analytics or advertising tools, and they do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Emails
When you create an account we send a few emails to help you get started, along with account emails such as password resets. New accounts also get occasional training tips and product news. Every email includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can manage email preferences in Settings.
Push notifications
On the website, push notifications stay off until you turn them on for a device, and we only offer them after you save a result or finish a workout. When you turn them on, your browser gives us a push address and encryption keys for that device. We keep them with your account and use them only to send the alerts you allow in Settings, such as level-ups, rare lifts, new followers and Coach reminders. Each alert is encrypted on our server and travels through the push service run by your browser's maker, such as Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft, which cannot read it. You can turn push off for a device in Settings or in your browser. We delete a device's push details when you turn push off in Settings, when the push service tells us the address no longer works, or when you delete your account. In the apps, notifications stay off until you allow them on your phone. When you do, Expo gives the app a push token for your phone, and we keep that token with your account to send the alerts you allow. Each alert goes from our server through Expo's push service to Apple Push Notification service on iPhone, or to Firebase Cloud Messaging, run by Google, on Android. Choose your alerts in the app under Settings, then Notifications, or turn them all off in your phone's settings. We delete the token when you sign out of the app, when that device's sign-in ends, when the push service tells us the token no longer works, or when you delete your account. Rest timer alerts are set on your phone and do not pass through our server.
Apple Health and Health Connect
Our apps can connect to Apple Health on iPhone and Health Connect on Android. This stays off until you turn it on in the app under Settings, then Health, and allow it on your phone. Once you do: On iPhone, the app reads your bodyweight, birth date and sex. On Android, it reads your latest bodyweight. On both, the app saves each workout you finish: its start and end time, its name, the number of sets and the total volume. We use what the app reads only to fill in your strength score form, and what it writes only to save your workouts. The app offers each value as a button on the score form, and nothing goes to our server unless you tap it. Once you tap a value and calculate or save, your bodyweight, sex and age are handled like values you typed, and your profile settings decide who sees them. Your birth date stays on your phone. The app sends only your age. We do not use health data for advertising or marketing, we do not sell it, and we share it with no one except as needed to run these features. Our use of information received from Health Connect follows the Health Connect Permissions policy, including its Limited Use requirements. To stop, turn Health off in the app's Settings. To remove access on iPhone, open the Health app, then Sharing, then Apps. On Android, open Health Connect and choose App permissions.
Public profile and leaderboards
New profiles start private. You decide whether to publish your profile and whether to appear on leaderboards. When your profile is public, others can see your username, strength scores and levels, lift history and progress, badges, and your age, sex and bodyweight unless you hide them. You can hide those fields or make your profile private at any time in Settings. If you upload a profile photo or sign in with Google, X or Facebook, others see that photo only while your profile is public, and you can replace or remove it in Settings. Members can report a profile or a profile photo. We save the report, who sent it and any reason they give. A reported photo is hidden from other members at once while we review it. We then show it again or remove it.
Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers that help us run Symmetric Strength, such as our hosting provider, our email delivery provider, Google Analytics, Sentry for app crash reports, Expo for app measurements and app notifications, Apple and Google for delivering app notifications, OpenRouter and the AI model provider it uses, and the sign-in providers you choose to use. They process information on our behalf and only as needed to provide their service. To word a Smart Coach suggestion or your weekly review, we send OpenRouter the facts behind it: lift names, your level, the gap between your movement patterns, the sets, reps and load, when you last saved your lifts, how your saved lifts and score have changed, your recent personal bests, and how many workouts you logged and when. OpenRouter passes them to an AI model provider such as OpenAI. We do not send your name, email, age, sex or bodyweight. Once you sign in to one of our apps, we stop sending your information to OpenRouter, on the website too, and your Smart Coach keeps the rule wording. We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect the safety of our users or the service.
Security
Passwords are stored as secure hashes, never in plain text. Connections to the site are encrypted, and private account data is available only to you when you are signed in. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and review our safeguards regularly.
Keeping your data
We keep your information while your account is active. In Settings you can download a copy of your data or deactivate your account. Deactivating takes your profile offline until you sign in again. To delete your account, see Deleting your account below. Activity records, such as sign-ins, password resets and sign-up clicks, include your IP address and browser type. After 90 days we remove both and keep the rest of the record.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account and personal data at any time, in the app, on the website or by email. Deletion happens at once and cannot be undone. In the app: tap your picture at the top right, then Settings. Under Permanent deletion, tap Delete account. Type DELETE. Enter your current password and tap Delete permanently, or on iPhone tap Continue with Apple. Then confirm. On the website: sign in and open Settings, then Account. Under Permanent deletion, choose Permanently delete my account. Type DELETE, enter your current password and choose Delete permanently. If you signed up with Google, X or Facebook and never set a password, reset it from the sign-in page first, then follow the steps above. If you signed up with Apple, do the same, or use Continue with Apple in the iPhone app. If you cannot sign in, email [email protected] from the email address on your account and ask us to delete it. We will delete your account and data and reply to confirm. Deleting your account removes your profile, lifts, workouts, custom exercises, Coach history, social connections, preferences, notifications, app push tokens, the list of phones you signed in to our apps on, and account access, along with what a sign-in provider sent us. To stop a provider from signing you in here, remove Symmetric Strength from the connected apps in your Google, X or Facebook account settings, or under Sign in with Apple in your Apple Account settings. When you confirm deletion with Apple in the iPhone app, we also ask Apple to end that sign-in connection. Some records stay without your identity: exercise definitions you added to the shared catalog, and non-personal billing records. We keep a one-way hash of your username for 30 days to reduce impersonation. Our nightly database backups keep each copy for 14 days, and other backup copies are removed as backups rotate. Workouts the app saved to Apple Health or Health Connect stay there until you delete them in that app.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: Access and download your personal data. Correct inaccurate data. Delete your data. Object to or restrict some processing. Withdraw consent at any time. You can do most of this yourself in Settings. For anything else, contact us at the address below.
Children
Symmetric Strength is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we make meaningful changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know by email or in the product.
